Javier Corrales, Associate Professor of Political Science, is cited this morning in a Bloomberg story on today’s referendum in Venezuela. Voters are deciding whether to rescind term limits and allow President Hugo Chávez, elected in 1998 and reelected in 2000 and 2006, to remain in office.
If Chávez prevails, Corrales says, he may see a victory as “a renewed mandate to accelerate his march toward socialism.” Corrales continues, “I’d expect him to become more radical and arbitrary in his management of the economy.”
